Inspired by the natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle of Florida's Emerald Coast , Bill Poffel relocated his business, Rooted in Wood, in 2004 from Baltimore to Panama City Beach . One client and commission at a time, Bill designs and builds beautiful custom furniture and fine cabinetry.

Bill brings an expertise honed by more than twenty years in business and a passion nurtured by the old-world values and hand-made craftsmanship learned from his grandfather, a cabinetmaker and Polish immigrant. Rooted in Wood's work has been featured in publications including Home and Design, Style and Chesapeake Home as well as on HGTV and on sister network Fine Living's The Genuine Article where Bill was profiled alongside David Linley, the London-based furniture designer and nephew of Queen Elizabeth.

Begun in his mother's basement in 1978, what became Rooted in Wood eventually grew to 8 employees and worked for clients like Dorothy Hamill, actor Julie Bowen, and Maryland Senate President Mike Miller. Lured by the beaches and opportunities of Bay County, Bill chose to redesign his business and life and rediscover his singular passion for the craft. Bill is currently soliciting custom commissions locally.
