Inspired by the natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle of Florida's Emerald Coast, Bill Poffel relocated his business, Rooted in Wood, in 2004 from Baltimore to Panama City Beach. One client and commission at a time, Bill designs and builds beautiful custom furniture, kitchens and cabinetry.
Bill brings an expertise honed by more than thirty years in business and a passion nurtured by the old-world values and hand-made craftsmanship learned from his grandfather Konrad Schroeder, cabinetmaker and Polish immigrant.
Rooted in Wood's work has been featured in publications, including Home and Design, Style, and Chesapeake Home, as well as on HGTV and on sister network Fine Living's The Genuine Article -- where Bill was profiled alongside David Linley, the London-based furniture designer and nephew of Queen Elizabeth.
In 1978, Bill put together his first shop in his parent's basement. After graduating from Loyola College in 1987, he officially opened Rooted in Wood in Fell's Point, Baltimore. Over the next 17 years, Rooted in Wood expanded twice into larger shops. Lured by the beaches and opportunities of Bay County, Bill chose to redesign his business and strengthen his singular passion for the craft.
